Octal JR with added preamp stage - dirty blues
Submitted by highroad on Tue, 01/22/2008 - 00:540:54 minutes (370.91 KB)
Yet another clip of my modded JR. I think a might have left the reverb plug-in turn on for this one, hard to tell. Anyway its an Ephiphone DOT neck pickup and the JR is set a little dirty.

Valve JR - Recorded silently using DI box
Submitted by highroad on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 04:401:03 minutes (989.02 KB)
I built a simple DI box to allow me to record my tube amps while my wife is sleeping. When the extension speaker is unpluged two 20 watt non-inductive resistors are switched in to act as a load. The line out is my own variation of the Herzog but with better impedance matching. I made sure that no effects or EQ are used in this recording to allow the true sound to be heard.
Valve JR - dimed into the DI
Submitted by highroad on Fri, 02/01/2008 - 01:581:43 minutes (1.58 MB)
kyoungsteadt was wondering what my DI sounded like with a distorted tone. This was recorded with the JR pretty much dimed and the guitar straight in. No speaker attached. The track had reverb and delay plug-ins active when mixed down. I rolled the volume on the guitar off then back on to see how it cleaned up. Excuse the dark less than inspired playing.

First clip! And it ain't even mine, darn it. This is short clip of a mix made by a friend of mine and some friends who happened to stop by one day. I wasn't there, but I'm told the lead guitar, both live and in the overdubs, is played through my Calico Beast v1.3 amp.

Valvo EL84 with EF86 and ECC83 pres & VVR
Submitted by seedlings on Tue, 03/25/2008 - 03:420:56 minutes (1.29 MB)
This riff is played 4 times. The 1st time through a Mullard ECC83 (both triodes in parallel), 2nd through the old stock Telefunken EF86, and third through BOTH preamp tubes. The fourth riff same as 3rd, but with UR12's VVR circuit turned all the way down. The master volume is dimed all the time. The speaker is an inexpensive 12" Eminence ceramic in an open back cabinet. Mic is SM57 about 12" away. Bridge humbucker.
B+ is 308V at the plate of the power tube.
